who is ajaya?

After
10 years of dance-training,
Ajaya began practicing yoga as a college student in New York City.
She began delving deeper into her yoga practice after 9/11 and left a decade-long career as an editor to become certified as a Yoga Alliance registered
Hatha Yoga instructor.

Ajaya received her training at Integral Yoga Institute (IYI) in New York City’s West Village.
IYI is the oldest yoga school in the U.S, with a lineage that traces back to India via Sri Swami Satchidananda. Guruji Satchidananda, dubbed “the apostle of peace,” is best known as the long-hair who opened the historical 1969 Woodstock Music Festival in
lotus position.

In her quest for a spiritual, non-religious experience, Ajaya has found the ancient art of yogic rejuvenation
to be essential in maintaining her youthfulness and joy,
despite the stresses of the day-to-day experience.
Ajaya believes that truly authentic yoga
is an effective tool in maintaining
physical, spiritual, and mental
core-strength
balance.

Ajaya
 guides fluid, core-strengthening
Hatha Yoga classes at her South Laguna studio.
Using breath as the essence of movement, poses are held to capacity
to generate inner fire and heat. Twists are twisted deeper to open charkas and release toxins and stale emotions from the body. Vinyasas (fluid movements) bridge the gap between poses held. A 15-minute long Sivaasana (relaxation on the back) includes a tensing-and-releasing practice that allows
practitioners to realize a completely tension-free deep relaxation she calls
"a horizontal meditation on the breath."

Ajaya’s also affordable private sessions
are 30 minutes longer than group classes and include her signature
herbal massage /sivaasana adjustment
before deep relaxation.

Ajaya holds a BA from Columbia University and an MFA in Creative Writing from New School University.
She is also a writer and instructor of
fiction, poetry &
journalism.
